Luca: A Circular Electric Car Powered by Cleantron

Developed at the Eindhoven University of Technology, Luca is a circular electric car powered by Cleantron’s 48V battery modules. Built from recycled and bio-based materials, Luca showcases the future of sustainable, smart mobility.

Cleantron 48V Accu Modules: Swappable Power for a Greener Ride

At the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, a team of forward-thinking engineers and designers has developed an innovative and truly sustainable electric car: Luca. This pioneering vehicle is powered by Cleantron’s advanced li-ion battery technology and represents a bold step toward circular and environmentally conscious mobility.

What sets Luca apart is its construction. The main part of the chassis is made from a bio-based composite material, which includes flax fibers combined with fully recycled PET and polypropylene (PP)—plastic waste that has been collected directly from the ocean. This sustainable approach not only reduces carbon emissions but also gives new life to plastic that would otherwise pollute marine ecosystems.

The front and rear of the car feature a spaceframe structure made entirely from recycled aluminum, further emphasizing Luca’s commitment to circular design.

For energy storage, Luca is equipped with six high-energy-density 48V P4 portable battery modules from Cleantron. These swappable battery modules provide the necessary power while supporting modular, efficient vehicle design.

Luca is a shining example of how innovative design, cutting-edge engineering, and sustainable materials can come together to redefine what’s possible in the electric vehicle space.

Cleantron at The Battery Show 2021

Update: Meet Cleantron on November 30th – December 2nd 2021 at The Battery Show Europe, so you can see Cleantron’s latest innovations.
Battery Innovations like Fast Charging Solutions, Advanced Battery Modularity and Multi Pack Configurations for Parallel Discharge. Next to that Cleantron will present a new Battery Use Concept called High Power MPC. It is a dual battery system with one fixed Battery Pack (for Power) and one lightweight, easy to exchange, Battery Module (for Capacity). Instead of charging at a Charge Station the lightweight module can be exachanged, so it is very suitable for Urban Vehicles with limited access to Charging Infrastructure.

The Telit OneEdge – Powered by Cleantron Connected Lithium-Ion Battery Demo

Cleantron collaboration demo with Telit

Although Telit withdrew its participation from the Embedded World Exhibition & Conference, we would still like to share with you what we had planned to showcase during the event.

Telit and Cleantron Cleantech Batteries were set to demonstrate their collaborative innovation through a live demo featuring Telit’s OneEdge™ technology integrated into Cleantron’s 48V P4 Standard Li-ion Battery Module. This solution highlights the power of embedded connectivity in cleantech energy systems.

The showcased battery module includes integrated software and connectivity that enables remote monitoring of critical battery parameters such as state of charge, voltage, temperature, and health status. This remote capability allows fleet managers, OEMs, and integrators to access real-time insights from anywhere, improving operational efficiency and battery lifecycle management.

By combining Cleantron’s modular battery technology with Telit’s robust IoT connectivity platform, the solution offers a future-ready system for scalable, smart battery deployments across e-mobility, industry, and energy applications.

Although we couldn’t present this demo in person at Embedded World, we invite you to explore the innovation online. See the following link: Cleantron & Telit at Embedded World
